It’s Cleanse Season: Support the Bodies Natural Purification Process.
Many people come to me each spring wondering about what would be the best way to help their body cleanse after a long winter filled with filling rich foods. People will ask about cleanses from the store – usually with herbs that can be helpful to clean out the body or they may look to a particular diet – either one that will focus upon foods that will clean the body (especially the liver) or food that will purge out accumulated junk that built up during our long winters. “Sit up straight, get your shoulders back, stop slouching, you have bad posture,” we are told, but what does it all mean and why is posture so important? If you are standing in a crowd of people or a clinic and someone mentions posture, there is a knee jerk response, and people will simultaneously stand in an erect position for 5 maybe 10 seconds, looking around with guilt expressions on their faces (echoes from our parents or our primary and secondary school days). Posture is firmly engrained in our minds but remains very elusive and often misunderstood.Read more “Good Posture: Whats the Point?”
I catch myself saying “I am too busy for ___” , when in reality I know I am not. I am ‘too busy’ because I am making a choice, and prioritizing other things. You’re only as busy as you allow yourself to feel. It’s about allowing for the pause.

Epsom salt is a naturally occurring pure mineral compound of magnesium and
sulfate. Studies have shown that magnesium and sulfate are both readily absorbed
through the skin, making Epsom salt baths an easy and ideal way to enjoy the
wonderful health benefits. Magnesium regulates the activity of over 325 enzymes in the body, reduces inflammation, and decreases muscle pain and fatigue. Sulfates help improve the absorption of nutrients and flush toxins.
Why community acupuncture? What about it makes me so loyal to it’s business model and techniques?
Recently I came across an article (linked below) about the radical roots of community acupuncture (CA). It reminded me about the reasons that I followed the healing arts and also why CA is so important to me. At heart I’m an activist and social justice is one of the many things that drive my passions. As a healer it was and is important to me that preventative health care is available for all people. During my education I realized that acupuncture is not very accessible to my peers. I spent many hours trying to figure out a way to fix this, bartering and work trades only work when people have mutually beneficial skills/ items to work with. Sometime during the second half of school Working Class Acupuncture out of Portland came to hold a workshop on CA. Eureka! It was like taking the fundamentals class in acupuncture after struggling in chemistry. It just made so much sense to me, and it was such a relief to discover a way to be an acupuncturist that worked with my heart.
