Birth of the New Year: More Self Care

With More Self Care, You Can Birth a Happier YOU!

It’s the dark of the morning before my young children awake and start my day of chaos. Today is New Years Eve and as always I wonder why we celebrate the birth of the new year in the deepest cold of winter. Maybe it is because it is the time to turn inward and contemplate. 2015 has been a challenging year for many people. From the drought in California to the Black Lives Matter protest in North Minneapolis I have found it difficult to keep in mind the beauty of humanity.

Being an acupuncturist is a place where I find succor, where I am reminded of the amazing resilience of people in the face of pain and hardship. I find that I am treating emotional distress about 95% of the time, in addition to the other physical ailments my patients bring. And I love it. I so appreciate all of my patients, for your trust, for your candor, and also for your strength.

It takes strength just to make the decision to take care of yourself. Often self care is the what one cuts from their lives in an attempt to just keep up.

So as we head into 2016 I want to support all those out there that are taking the time to care for themselves. Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup!  Give birth to a happier, healthier you.  Give birth to better self care because you deserve it.
My son has awoken and is now sitting here drinking cider and wanting to discuss the science of why laughing so hard that liquid shoots out of your nose. And so the day begins.
